Mahindra Thar

Ever heard of an Automobile which doesn't need a tarred surface? Meet this baby monster from Mahindra. Mahindra is well known for making vehicles which are sturdy and powerful to suit the conditions in a country like India, where the climate goes ga-ga from the foot of the map starting in Kerala to the top which encloses Kashmir. Forget that, lets come into the topic , Mahindra Thar is made for off road adventure, yes the "Thar hates Tar". Thar is turbocharged with an approximately 2498cc CRDe , sporting a tuff exterior construction which reminds us of its predecessors the MM540 and the CJ5 , thar makes you feel comfortable even in the most challenging terrains. It is simply a beast, an adventurer, making the worlds most exotic of places its playground. Though the exterior looks old and classical from those 1940 war movies, Mahindra has done some neat work on the technical side of the vehicle therefore making it to cruise on the highway just like any other vehicle. Owning an offroader which can cruise, now isnt that something??

Design

The construction of this mean machine is extremely fascinating , boasting an engine which produces around 77.23 kw of power and an engine torque of almost around 250 nm at 1800 -2000 rpm, Thar is a paradise to someone looking to have some fun outdoors or in the woods on wheels. It is a 4 wheel drive vehicle with a 5 speed manual and a Borg Warner transmission case. The ground clearance of this vehicle is about 200 mm and a short person might want to make use of the foot boards on the side steps to climb into it.The Thar is available in the DI and the Crde variants. The Di comes with the BS III norm and the CRDe with the BS IV. The latter is aimed at the city and the young and the daring while the latter is aimed at the rural areas and the design is less sophisticated.

Suspension and comfort

The suspension provided in the front is an independent type with a Torsion Bar and those at the rear are elliptical leaf springs. Like majority of the other Mahindra vehicles Thar is also a seven seater. It has an Approach angle of 46 degree and a Departure angle of 30. Dont need the 4X4?? you can use the Auto hub lock , thereby saving the fuel and also adding to the glide of the vehicle.

Brakes

The front is provided with a 113 mm disc and caliper type, while the rear is provided with the 279 drum type

Undoubtedly the new generation of classic offroaders have already arrived and the Thar is the perfect example of one and whats more, you can customize Thar with genuine 4X4 accessories and thus adding spice to the already hot masterpiece.
